Has anyone seen this? I just watched it, and it's actually quite interesting. Captain Pike is less ... irritating ... than Kirk Spock had a funky hairstyle going on The colour fluctuation got a bit annoying, but then again it was a really old tape and it was the only print they had back then. Any other thoughts?

I've seen it! It's the best Trek episode ever. Yes, Spock had a very funky hair style, it matched his funky smile. The colour fluctuation is due to the fact that the video you saw was made using the surviving B/W print with colour extracts from "The Menagerie". I think a full colour episode now exists, but I'm not that sure. I keep hearing about Gene Roddenberry's original 35mm work print, so who knows. The DVD release of TOS vol 3 has two versions to watch.

I thought the cage was good but i thought Where No Man Has Gone Before was better , i also thought Kirk was better than Pike.

*waits for the fight to commence, Kirk Vs. Pike... who will win * I'd say Picard was a better captain than both, but I haven't seen enough of Kirk to comment really Anyways... Hehe yeah, it was weird seeing him smile

It is to be said that Pike would have made a better captain than Kirk. Shatner just had a little...um...acting problem. I know it's an old chestnut, but at least Pike didn't talk. Like. Every. Word. Was. It's. Own. Sentence.
By far Picard is the captain of captains as he has a general air of leadership, that unfortunately Kirk didn't have. Though, plenty of Trek puritans will kick my *ss for saying it, but say Jeff Hunter did get the role over Shatner, we'd would be defending him and saying Shatner wasn't good enough. Pike, in my opinion (and don't get me wrong, you can all say Kirk is better and that's you opinion too) would have made a better captain, and also the concept of a female No. 1 was brilliantly conceive, but at the time was not suitable.

True, that would happen with a lot of things though... people are just more used to Shatner being the captain...
But from what I saw of "The Cage", it's a shame that we didn't get to see more of Captain Pike in action later on...
